The Faculty of Allied Health Sciences (FAHS) was established in the academic year, 2013-2014 with just one UG program, namely B.Sc Allied Health Science 6 innovative programs, with a view to (i) train students in specialties and lend front-end support as well as (ii) to provide the research input to the Physicians. In the first batch, we had a total of only thirty students.
Over the years, the Faculty of AHS has grown gradually by leaps and bounds to offer a total of twelve specialties under the B.Sc., AHS Innovative programs with specialization.
FAHS serves as a major and vital supporting system to the physicians by generating health care professionals who provide technical and research input in order to make better decisions about the health condition of patients and plan treatment procedures.
The present system of FAHS has been evolved by exercising a pronged approach of spreading its wings in the domains of allied health sciences. Through the concerted efforts of activities in the areas and a close interaction with the clinical as well as pre-clinical departments of the Faculty of Medicine, FAHS is effectively contributing to strengthen the health care and medical services at the local, regional, national and global levels.
FAHS has been practicing a unique cyclic mechanism of achieving the above goals by (i) offering a series of innovative, professional and technology oriented UG allied health science programs, (ii) laying the foundation for student-centered learning of the pre-clinical and clinical subjects in the light of theory, practical’s and research under a challenging curriculum, (iii) an intensive interaction with the clinical departments for imparting the most important professional hands-on training, (iv) getting the input of relevant research works from the biomedical wing, (v) refining the techniques learnt from the clinical side based on the research input, (vi) giving an intensive training in the respective specialties through a one year full-time practical training, (vii) result analysis, (viii) training students to meet the challenges of the outer world by experts and alumni, (ix) getting feedback from all the stake-holders including the alumni and industries and (x) reforming the curriculum based on the feedback, research output and emerging trends in the fields only to reach the starting point once again. The unique syllabi thus evolved by FAHS have been taken as model by other institutions
In order to achieve a high degree of professionalism in the allied health science programs, the Faculty offers B.Sc (3 years course work +1 year practical training), programs in Allied Health Sciences stream which cater to the needs of people who aspire to become technical professionals as well as researchers. The importance of these programs is exemplified by the fact that the health care related industries and companies have evinced keen interest, over the years, in these programs and employed the students through campus placements. Our alumni are placed in renowned companies such as Siemens, Philips etc.
FAHS serves as a nodal centre for clinical and research activities, facilitated and coordinated by the Vice Principal & Co-Coordinator through collaboration with other departments and institutes. Thus, FAHS produces a direct impact on the outcomes of health in specific areas.
